Each Sunday, from September to June, the
St. Francis de Sales choir gathers in the choir loft at the back
of the church for the 12:00 mass. Our choir was formed over thirty
years ago when Herrnan Schmitt was appointed Choir Director. Mr.
Schmitt is still conducting our 29 members, five of whom have been
singing with the choir since its inception. Our members of all ages
backgrounds are united in the traditional sections of soprano, alto,
tenor and base.
Our Choir's collection of music includes
traditional pieces that have come to be a touchstone for our parish.
The familiarity of these common hymns bind us together as a people
while adding beauty to our Home. Certain special occasions would
not be the same without our choir's traditions - Veteran's Day,
St. Patrick's Day, the Easter ceremonies, Thanksgiving and Christmas
to name but a few. Our modern repertoire includes pieces by Marty
Haugen, John Rudder, Michael Joncas and David Haas. We also have
a collection of Taize music which encourages congregational participation
because of its simple melodies and interchangeable harmonies.
The St. Francis de Sales choir aims to contribute
to our parish Home and celebrations by joining together in praising
God with music.
Performances/Rehearsals
They sing at the 12 Noon Mass every Sunday; rehearsal follows until
2:15 P.M. They also sing for most major parish functions.
During November, December, March and April, evening rehearsals are
on Wednesday at 7:30 P.M.
